SAMIKA
APSARA is a contemporary interpretation of Cambodian identity, rooted in the celestial Apsaras and Devata figures immortalized in the bas-reliefs of Angkor Wat, an enduring symbol of Cambodia's cultural heritage. The collection reflects my experience as a Cambodian American designer, merging American streetwear and vintage Americana with traditional Cambodian textiles, motifs, and references to the Apsara dancer. Each garment is designed to exist beyond the runway as part of an interchangeable wardrobe, allowing the wearer to mix, layer, and style the pieces in a way that reflects their own identity. By combining luxurious textiles with everyday fabrics across a range of silhouettes, the collection offers versatility, encouraging the garments to transition effortlessly between elevated occasions and daily life while celebrating the evolving nature of culture through contemporary dress.
This magazine was created as part of my exhibition for The Debut, offering a deeper look into the world of SAMIKA and the story behind the collection. I wanted a format that could fully capture the campaign and its concept beyond the runway. Because SAMIKA is rooted in the intersection of fashion, art, and culture, creating something tangible felt just as important as the garments themselves.
